I was thinking it will at last dump the decade old Windows Fax and go for integration in Windows Mail...
BTW, I can still see some Windows 95 designs there...

Why is Fax still seperate?
Windows Mail is for e-mails and and Microsoft Fax is for facsimile, two different purposes. Both programs share the Contacts folder though so there is some level integration. Yeah, I hope they update the tool bar icons to reflect a consistent look and feel. Its still early and I would consider UI changes to be Fit and Finish, which should start to happen around BETA 2. -- Andre Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta FAQ for MS AntiSpy http://www.geocities.com/marfer_mvp/FAQ_MSantispy.htm

Yeah, maybe it's just I'm too used to how Office Outlook works by integrating everything.
I'll look forward to the UI improvements : )

You know, regardless its even integrated into Office Outlook, I still end up using the the built in fax in XP, with Vista, Microsoft has made it even easier for me. -- -- Andre Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta FAQ for MS AntiSpy http://www.geocities.com/marfer_mvp/FAQ_MSantispy.htm <Nicholas> wrote in message

It's funny how the "Windows Picture and Fax Viewer" is used mainly for pictures, but actually rarely used for viewing faxes as well... is it just me who's noticed that?
Is it actually a fax viewer, or just a very-generic picture viewer? :op

Correct, but on the Right click context menu when you select a picture and choose Open With, it says Windows Picture and Fax Viewer.

There are unique features in Windows Picture and Fax Viewer for viewing faxes, like annotations.

Zack, I believe a fax (facsimile) is actually a "picture" of a document, so it would stand to reason the fax can be viewed as a picture. :-}

Fax being separate started with the birth of Outlook Express, and the death of Windows Messaging (which was previously the Microsoft Exchange client in Windows 9x, and included Fax support). The Fax support *should* install as a printer driver, and you send faxes like you would print documents; I actually preferred to create single-page faxes using either Word or Publisher, and *print* them via the Fax driver when I still had a fax/modem. The Windows 9x bits are largely because e-mail has made the Fax component rather moribund (along with the ubiquity of Outlook and Windows Mail/Outlook Express).
